Moving air or visible fan blades can create motion blur in images, and portable fans often make a room feel cluttered or less polished. Taking a few moments to turn off or remove fans can help create a cleaner, more professional look.
Ceiling Fans Should Be Completely Off
Even a slow-spinning ceiling fan can cause problems during a photo shoot. The blades may blur or cast moving shadows on walls and ceilings, which can distract from the room’s features. Before the session begins, turn off all ceiling fans completely and make sure the blades come to a full stop.
Move Oscillating and Portable Fans Out of Sight
Freestanding fans — whether oscillating, box-style, or tower fans — should be removed from rooms and temporarily stored in the garage or a closet. These items take up visual space and signal that the room may run warm, which can leave a negative impression on buyers. Removing them helps the room appear more comfortable and uncluttered.
Check for Fan Remotes and Wall Switches
Some ceiling fans operate by remote or wall switch. Before the photographer arrives, make sure everything is turned off and remotes are stored out of sight. It’s a small step that helps create a calm and controlled environment for the photos.
